Who's Hot…
FordTough stay hot with another victory this week.

With their playoff win, the Thunderbolts have now put together three wins in a row.

The Falcons stay on the hot list with another victory this week.

The Cobras now have three wins in a row with their playoff victory.

The Diesels extend their winning streak out to 4 games now.
...and NOT…
The GT are still looking for their first win since Week 8.

The Bullitts now find themselves on a five game losing streak.
Week 24 Intro :
Three games go to a shootout this week and with one from each pool that sets up some interesting possibilities across all three pools as teams vie to get enough points to make it into the Bracket. Good write-ups from all the Reps this week. Looks like no one is willing to risk Gazette karma so early in the playoffs.

Week 24 in Review :
Cobras 3 (SO 2)   Raiders 3 (SO 1) :
Filar: Good back and forth game with both teams playing well. Raiders get a tipped shot by for the game tying goal but Yizze and Lewis each score and lift the Cobras to a OT victory in the first game. GT on deck.

McKenzie: Best team in the league up next.
FordTough 5   GranTorinos 4 :
Dalimonte: Ford Tough faces Gran Torinos in opening playoff action.

Tough have to fight off upset jitters as 12 seed Torinos went to finals previous year from 12th place regular season finish. Tough and GT finish seasons on different directions.

Tough get on the board early of 1st as Rookie Fink strikes from Chapman 1-0. Tough strike again as Sub Matt Springer gets one timer from point to put the Tough up 2-0 end of 1st.

2nd Period, Fink gets another unassisted as he goes end to end 3-0 Tough. Phil Rea replacement The Cannon Chris C gets one timer from Blazing Blair and Fink. 4-0 Tough.

Tough on way to victory lane until Mick perry picks up a rebound to cut lead 4-1, then sub Blake Smith gets snapper past Demars 4-2 end of 2nd. Tough have to put victory party on hold.

3rd period, Tough power play 5 min mark, Albert fires blazing wobbler from inside blue line to somehow get past Demars shorthanded....4-3 Tough. 2 min left, Blazing Blair from Fink puts Tough up 5-3.

15 seconds left, Rueben blazes slap shot in to cut lead 5-4. GT pull goalie and Albert has a chance at the end but wiffs on shot ;-) WHEEEEWWWWWW!!

Great playoff game and the Tough get reality check on playoff hockey time. 5-4 Tough pull it off.

Thank you Matt Springer for subbing.

Michell: David and Goliath match up with the #12 vs #1 match up. Close hard play to start the game with the heavily subbed GT getting behind early to the juggernaut FT. Down 0-4 things are not looking good for the GT with the Tough getting the bounces and the refs seeing half a game. But as it has been all year there is no quit in this GT squad. A couple goals and we have a game again. Some how the Tough get another bounce with Fink falling behind the GT net yet the puck squirts out to a waiting Chapman who tucks it in. GT get two more and put on the pressure but can’t get the equalizer. Hard to imagine that the Tough go unpenalized in a scrappy playoff game but that’s how it goes. Thanks to subs Blake Smith, G$ and Dave McClain. Bring it back next week with rematch against the ‘Bras.
Falcons 4 (SO 3)   Marauders 4 (SO 1) :
Bordeau: Round #1 of the playoffs Falcons face off against Todd Soap Daddy and the Marauders. We played them once in the regular season and beat them in week 6. Now 2 different teams on the ice and the Falcons score the first goal early in the 1st period. Marauders answer right back and tie it up at 1 apiece. Falcons finish off the 1st period with another goal and a 1 goal lead.
First shift of the 2nd period the Falcons score again for a 2 goal lead. Both teams trade goals late in the period to end it Falcons 4 Marauders 2.
Falcons can not hold the 2 goal lead as the Marauders battle back to tie it up with 2:58 left in the 3rd period. Shoot-out baby.
Strong Falcon goaltending hold the Maruaders to only 1 goal and the Falcons score 3 to get the 2 point shoot-out Win.

Soper: Tight contest. Falcons dominate early and Marads claw back from a 3-1 deficit to get the tie.

Joe Z. and Eastie have great games and get two goals each. Luebke gets the hatty. Both goalies play very well.
Thanks to John Crisi for subbing.

Joe Z. gets one in from behind the goal line on our first from Crisi and the REF was right there to make the correct call as it just trickles over the line. Eastie works hard and takes the puck from Falcon D, then buries it for our 2nd.. Hustle and hard work earn Eastie his 2nd on the night as he drives toward the net and the puck slides by the Falcon goalie. Joe Z. ties it late as Marads crash the net and Eastie finds Joe .Z in front and he slips it inside the post through a screen.

Falcons win the shootout 3-1. TBOLTS up next.
Thunderbolts 7   Broncos 4 :
Tymczak: We came out fast, that was the difference in this game. Our top guys were hard to handle with all their speed and skill. Alex played well. Gotta keep pressure on teams, no letting up! This ain't intramurals brotha! Up next soper and the marauders.

Kluegel: The normally defensive minded Broncos found themselves in a 4-1 hole in the first period. The Broncos were able to trim the lead to 4-2 and later to 5-3 but it would not be enough on this night. 7-4 Thunderbolts, Final. We will put this one behind us and get ready for the Falcons.
Mavericks 4 (SO 3)   Boss 4 (SO 1) :
Moczydlowsky: Mavericks make their first playoff debut since the 2014 / 2015 season and they do not disappoint!

First period is extremely fast with numerous chances at both ends. Ends tied up at 0.

Second period, newly upgraded Colin Rossman goes end to end with a little give and go to and from the Mavs leader fresh off the bench, splitting the D and tucking it home to take the 1-0 lead.
Somehow the boss scored to tie it up shortly after.
Soon later the Mavs offensive onslaught begins with a top shelf snipe from the skipper from Sharlow. Minutes later Sladich decides to get in on the fun and takes it end to end off the boards back to himself around the d, circles the wagon, and drops an Appleseed to johnny on the spot Ryan a Jones in the slot who finds the back of the net.

Third period starts same as the second ended with Mavs dominating play. After an early offensive zone whistle sharlow walks the center an off the draw, tosses it on net which finds Cierra by herself on the back door to shelf it!

Everything looks great for the Mavs right? Wrong!!! We blew the lead! Decided to hang back and play a little D. That was a bad idea. Good thing Zach Cholette "is excellent in shootouts" his words not mine.

Menard, Jones, Sharlow back to back to back to seal the deal all while Zach turns away shot after shot after shot to win it!

Big win for the Mavs! Thanks Ruben for subbing.

Finger: Boss could not match the mav's speed. We did a good job on Sharlow who had 6 goals in two games against us so those clever Mavs diced up the scoring elsewhere this time. J.C led his team like a good coach with a nice shot, My Nemisis Jonesy pots one, Rossman, (Who just subbed for us and I thought we were Pals) and damn if Cierra didn't stick in the dagger with a beauty stop up, pull back roofer. Boss hitch their wagon to the franchise and EP delivers all 4 of our goals to get us a valuable point and into the shootout. Cholette looms large in the net and holds BOSS to one goal in the SO.. We know what to do next time we face the Mavs (Oh yes, we will be moving on)
Big game Monday against what is sure to be an inspired Bullitts team.
Diesels 4   Bullitts 1 :
DePaoli: Great playoff action as former teammates and veteran reps square off in the 2 vs. 11 matchup. Bullitts control most of the 1st period and get a PP goal.1-0. 2nd period the Diesels start to control the play the later it went, and they score a PP goal with a minute left. 1-1 going into the 3rd. Bullitts completely break down and give up 3 goals and lose.
Time to regroup and go after the Boss that have owned us all season.

Kundinger: Off their best and only win streak the hot Diesels face the oddly cold Bullitts. A matchup that the Bullitts controlled in the first two meetings in the regular season, but you rarely want to face an opponent after beating them the prior two times. Both teams play pretty conservative to start, but the Diesels fall victim to a penalty mid way through that gives the Bullitts the important first goal. Not to be out done, the Diesels get a PP chance of their own and take full advantage off a beautiful D-to-D pass from Joe D. at the point to Deke who fires a slapped in on Gardner. He makes the first save, but Albert is all alone in front to put away the rebound to tie it up! 1-1 after 1. Both teams play shutdown defense in the second period keeping it tied after 2. Huge 3rd period with all the pressure you could expect in the playoffs. It takes several minutes for one team to take control of the game and that was the Diesels after Adam Q. puts in a huge rebound goal to make it 2-1 Diesels! As the time ticks off the curfew clock the Bullitts are forced to make something happen quickly. Unfortunately, for them the Diesels clog up the outlet passes and eventually take advantage of of an offensive press. Mr. Jones winds up and buried another one for the Diesels to get some security. Looking good for the Diesels, but one thing is for certain, no team is done until the final whistle. Albert looks to make sure the Bullitts are put out of their misery with a couple minutes left after he races down the right side and snipes the final tally off Gardner’s shoulder and into the top shelf. Diesels victorious and keep the streak alive!

Thanks to great sub play by Albert, Crisi, Boismier, and new Diesel, Reagle!

One last note: the game before ours went into a shootout. Our game was not given 50 minutes like it should have been and our 3rd period was almost entirely run time. I think it needs to be made clear to the rink we require each game to have 50 minutes of game time before any curfew is enforced, regardless of a game going into a shootout.
